Baylor Lake

Baylor Lake is located 9 miles NW of Childress. It is well known for being a great Bass Fishing Lake. Baylor has 41,668 feet of shoreline. Just across from Baylor Lake is Childress Lake with 12,475 feet of shoreline. Both lakes are for public fishing. Permit required. From Highway going west from Childress turn South on FM 2466 and follow until you see sign for Baylor Lake at Co. Rd. 3A turn East.

Bridge over Fair Park Lake

A walking bridge across Fair Park Lake. Constructed in 2003. The City park has some walking trails throughout the park. Fair Park is located on Ave I NW and Commerce St. From Highway 287 turn North on Commerce St. for 4 blocks. As you cross Ave I NW you will drive into Fair Park.

Childress County Heritage Museum

The Childress County Heritage Museum is located at 210 3rd. St. NW. Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Directions from Highway 287 turn South on 3rd Street and go 3 blocks.

Christmas in the Park

Each year Fair Park is decorated by a committee of dedicated citizens and maintained with the help of T.L. Roach Unit. It is a dazzling array of lights each year between Thanksgiving and New Years. Directions to Fair Park -- From Highway 287 Turn North on Commerce St. go 4 blocks and as you cross Ave I NW you will drive into Fair Park.

Ciry Auditorium

The City Auditorium is located in Fair Park. Behind the auditorium is Fair Park lake with some ducks usually ready to feast on some Bread crumbs. The playground and the city pool are also located in Fair Park.

Engine 501

The 501 Engine was presented to the City of Childress in 1959 by the Fort Worth and Denver Railroad. Engine 501 stands in R Wright Armstrong Park. The history of Childress was once centered around the railroad that created the town in 1887. Directions to R Wright Armstrong Park. From Highway 287 turn South on Main Street go 5 blocks to Ave Turn West and the Engine is sitting there in the middle of the block in the park.

Fair Park Rotary Bowl

The rotary bowl is available in the city park for picnics, family reunions or whatever get together you may think of. Fair Park (our City Park) is located on Ave I and Commerce St. From Highway 287 Turn North on Commerce St. proceed 4 blocks, as you cross Ave I NW you will drive into Fair Park.

Fountain on Fair Park Lake

A recent addition to the Lake in Fair Park was the Fountain. This picture was taken one morning when the sun was shining brightly just above the fountain.

Gazebo Park

Gazebo Park is located on Main Street of downtown Childress. This park is maintained by the Women's Council of Childress. The Gazebo has been utilized by many for weddings. Directions to Gazebo Park. From Highway 287 turn South on Main St. go 2 blocks and Gazebo Park is on the East side of the street.

Veterans Memorial erected Nov. 2005

The Veterans Memorial was completed in November 2005 and dedication was on Nov. 11, 2005. The memorial is something we can all be very proud of. A total of 5000 names are on the memorial. The memorial is located on the Courthouse lawn facing highway 287.
